Luca Giordano, Werkstatt/workshop (1634 - 1705)
Under his father’s guidance, Luca copied paintings in the churches of Naples. From 1652, his travels took him several times to Rome. He served part of his apprenticeship with Jusepe de Ribera who, besides 16th-century Venetian painting, was a major influence on his work. In the course of further travels he went to Venice, as in 1664–1665, where he studied the work of Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. Giordano had contacts among art dealers and collectors in Florence, and received commissions from the nobility, the clergy and the court of the Spanish viceroy in Naples. His œuvre includes frescos and altar paintings, some for the principal churches in Naples.
