Wilhelm Friedrich Schlotterbeck (1777 - 1819)

Schlotterbeck, whose birthplace is not fully established (possibly Härtingen/Basel or Hertingen in Markgräflerland), was a copper engraver and draughtsman. From 1790 to 1796 he studied the technique of copper engraving and aquatint etching with Christian von Mechel (1737–1817) in Basel. From 1796 to 1800 he worked for the Chalcographic Society in Dessau, which published graphic reproductions of art-works, but the war forced him to leave. In 1801 he settled in Vienna, where he worked mainly for the publisher Tranquillo Mollo, for whom in 1803 he travelled to Salzburg, Tyrol, the Salzkammergut and Styria.
