Pijnacker (?) Adam (n.a. - 1673)
Adam Pijnacker (1620/1622 Schiedam – 1673 Amsterdam) The artist's name varies: Adam (Christiaensz.) Pijnacker (Pynacker). He was active during the period 1650 – 1673, his first dated work being from 1650, his last from 1670. An important influence was his stay in Italy (1645–1648), after which he travelled through France to Delft. There followed periods spent in Schiedam (1651–1652) and Lenzen an der Elbe (1654–1655), where he worked for the Brandenburg court. He was in Delft in 1657, and the following year he married Eva de Geest, daughter of the painter Wybrand de Geest I (1592–1672/1680). Pijnacker spent the years 1658–1661 in Schiedam, 1661–1670 in Amsterdam, and his final three years once more in Schiedam, where he was buried on 28 March 1673. His pupils were Adam Pick, Jan Gabrielsz. Sonjé and Gijsbert Verhoek. Pijnacker followed in the footsteps of Jan Asselijn (1600/1617–1652) and Jan Both (1615/1622–1652) and was influenced by Pieter van Laer (1599 –1642?). He painted Italianate landscapes; etchings and washed drawings are also preserved.
