Bonvicini (Buonvicini) Nicola (Lebensdaten unbekannt; tätig 2. H. 18. Jh./Biographical data unknown; active 2nd half of 18th century)

Various spellings (Buonvicini, Bonavicini, Bonvicini) are recorded, but only few details about the artist's life. The indication "Nicolaus Bonavicini Romanus pinxit Romae A. 1763" is to be found on two portraits of cardinals in the Collezione Riminaldi. For the Cattedrale di San Giacomo in Tuscania (90 km north-west of Rome), between 1784 and 1786 he painted scenes from the lives of the city's patron saints Verianus, Marcellianus and Secondianus, showing their exile from Rome, martyrdom and apotheosis. Bonvicini is known for his five paintings telling the story of Hermaphroditus and Salmacis, in the Hermaphrodite Room of the Villa Borghese in Rome. After 1790, he made the supraporte paintings of Juno and Jupiter, Bacchus and Ariadne, Venus and Mars, and Hercules and Iole, for the Palazzo Altieri in Rome.
