Stormy Landscape with the Prophet Elijah
Alessandro Magnasco (1677 - 1749)
Framesize 157.70 x 130.50 x 5.90 cm
Salvator Rosa's painting influenced the idiosyncratic formal vocabulary of Alessandro Magnasco (1667–1749). In the painting "Stormy Landscape" (probably dating from his middle period) the forces of nature determine the turbulent, highly emotional atmosphere. In the storm-lashed landscape, the biblical figures appear as mere accessories.
