Johann Georg Platzer (1704 - 1761)
Johann Platzer, who came from a family of painters, received instruction from his stepfather Joseph Anton Kessler (?–1721) and his uncle Jakob Christoph Platzer (1698– after 1720), court painter in Passau. He studied at the Vienna Academy, and became an outstanding fine painter in Vienna at the time of Maria Theresa. Albrecht von Sebisch (1685–1748), a diplomat at the imperial court, contributed to his advancement. Due to his illness (probably Parkinson’s), he returned home in 1739, and continued to fulfil commissions from Vienna by “dabbing” with the aid of a machine.
