As court painter to Archduke Johann, Ender sojourned between 1829 and 1833 in the "Gastein Valley". This watercolour leads the eye from a viewpoint above the Bad Gastein waterfall to the Ankogel Group opposite. Ender painted a watercolour of the ascent of the Gamskarkogel (one of the peaks in the group) by Archduke Johann and his wife on 24 August 1829.
