From 1861, as the first in his profession, Angerer was permitted to use the title of Court Photographer. On entering his studio, clients could choose how they wished their souvenir photo to be taken. Several sample books were on display, showing pictures of famous clients. The opening pages were devoted to the ruling Habsburg house. Ludwig Angerer’s wide collection of sample books offered a selection of backgrounds and poses, presented choices for framing, and – most importantly – gave the future model the opportunity of becoming part of the master’s élite clientèle.
