Mozart. The Sound of Salzburg

The DomQuartier Salzburg – part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and a defining symbol of Salzburg’s Baroque heritage – served for centuries as the center of both ecclesiastical and secular power of the Prince-Archbishops. At the same time, it was the principal setting of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s professional life, where he served as a court and cathedral musician. These were the very spaces for which he composed, where he worked, and where he performed.

 

To mark the 270th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, this unique cultural and historical legacy is now being brought to life for the first time through a contemporary cinematic and digital experience. Together with filmmaker Hannes M. Schalle (Moonlake Entertainment) and acclaimed actor Philipp Hochmair, we have created a ten-minute documentary film that offers a fresh perspective on Mozart’s historic connection to his place of work and service – today’s DomQuartier Salzburg.

 

Contemporary, authentic, and emotionally engaging, the film invites audiences to experience Mozart’s world anew. Philipp Hochmair guides viewers through the magnificent state-rooms of the Residenz, Salzburg Cathedral, and St Peter’s Abbey. Not through explanation, but through experience. Not from a distance, but up close and personal.

Every Saturday and Sunday, our 45-minute concert series “Date with Mozart” offers a unique opportunity to step into Mozart’s world. Members of the Residenz Ensemble present chamber music by Mozart in changing programmes performed by two to four musicians, creating an intimate and authentic musical experience.
